Wie geht es dir? Es geht mir gut.

sfmoma:

American Teacher screens tomorrow night at SFMOMA, 7pm.

From our website: Chronicling the lives and sacrifices of four public school teachers, American Teacher highlights an urgent crisis in the American educational system: how little we value our strongest, most committed, and most effective teachers, and the effect that has on how children learn. The documentary tells the deeper story of the teaching profession in America today, and what we can do to invest in it for tomorrow.

J.W. vs Monkeys
Handprinted with water based black ink
“If you prick us, do we not bleed? if you tickle us, do we not laugh? if you poison us, do we not die? and if you wrong us, shall we not revenge?”. – Shakespeare: Merchant of Venice (Act III, Scene I).I have made 10 images of 10 researchers from different departments who test on animals here at the University of Michigan. I believe it is important to share what is really happening behind windowless walls and advocate the use of alternatives to animals. Animals, such as vertebrates (including mice and rats) have a nervous system, just like us, so they can feel it when cut, burned, and electrocuted. Just because we can’t hear their thoughts doesn’t mean their screams mean nothing. The imagery is animals taking revenge on their typical human attackers. I have used mice, rats, monkeys, pigs, and rabbits for this project. I want to provoke the general public with these images to share my desire to end animal cruelty. The audience will see these images and, I hope, want to learn why I feel this way.
